Dec 10 - Sassy Averey

I just had to share this cute video of Averey. It really shows how big she is getting.

She discovered her bark last night and when I was getting ready for bed she was out in the living room just barking like a big girl over and over. And not her high pitch whine or excitement vocalizations.

Yesterday she did such a great job in housetraining. But today it is raining and it is like starting from scratch. She did piddle first thing in rain, but nothing after that.

I am seeing such a change and she is getting so big. It is so exciting!

Evil Knevil

Averey is becoming Evil Knevil. I don't want to baby her, so I make her walk up and down steps and such. Well I don't know if that was good. Because, she has discovered that she could jump off the bed. Last night she did it once, then this morning, she ran and I think she went to go potty somewhere then came back.

I also baked a batch of treats. I am hoping these little guys will help in my potty training front. I am slowly learning when is the right time to praise. I totally screwed up yesterday and this morning. I need to figure out the perfect time.

Now on the house training front = FAIL!

I am going to attempt to make a batch of mini-sani's and keep a baggie in my pocket when we go out to piddle. If she does business she will get a sani treat.

If anyone has any other house training suggestions. Please Share. I need hints. I am trying not to get frustrated. I do have a feeling it is more my lack of consistency. Sigh!

Update - December 2

Averey had a wonderful Thanksgiving going to visit Sarah, Maggie, & Ruby with Emma.

I feel like we are starting over again in the housetraining. I make strides, then we fall back behind.

Monday we went back to the vet for another shot. This time she got the rabies shot and she is now officially over 4 lbs. I was disappointed they did not include the right weight on her checkout form, which I know they did that on the previous form, so I will ask what they wrote in her record and write it down. She has one more puppy booster to go in two weeks. And the vet said she is growing very nice and spaying can be scheduled soon. I think I may shoot for February. I think January after the holidays we will stay close to home for the month and really place full focus on housetraining. We will also look for some dog obedience class. I want to get her socialized. She is very good with cheerios, but I want her to learn better manners.

Fitting into my ears!!!

Finally.... my ears are strong enough and I am getting big enough that my ears stand up. It is so cool they are not folded over anymore. They really make me look like a chihuahua now!

We had my follow-up Vet appointment on Monday. I got a booboo and icky stuff up my nose. Ewe! I also weighed 3.82 lbs. Which is so exciting. I am becoming a big girl.

I am also now also able to jump on and off of the couch, futon, and also jump down off of the bed. But in the morning I do not get off until Mommy wakes up.

Gotta go. I got to go piddle!

The Protector

We just heard someone out in the hallway and Averey just kicked into protect me or please protect her mode. It was quite a carry on bark. It was so cute.

Earlier today, I caught Emma munching away on Averey's food. So, folks have been telling me that Emma will not get sick, but might get fat eating the puppy food.

Tomorrow is Averey's second Vet appointment. She get to go for her second round of boosters and get boo boo's. I will make sure I post how the appointment goes.

She is getting so big. I can not wait to see how much she weighs. And as for housetrainng... I am failing miserably. :(

I can lock myself in my crate!

I locked myself in my crate and then I cried. Look I pulled the door shut and cried and did not know how to push it open. But I did cry for Mommy to let me out!

November 3, 2008 Relaxing Night!

I am so thrilled. Both girls are relaxing on the couch with me. This is the longest stretch together other than bedtime.

I am so happy and pleased that they are coming around.

Averey is also learning from Emma. Hiding when it is time to get in crate in the morning. Then also running and hiding when the vacuum is out.

What a fabulous night!

Oh My God!!!

Well, back to starting point with Av. Nothing outside today at all. Which bums me out.

On the other hand, when we were out she picked up and ran with a slug in her mouth. It was so gross.

Poopy Dance!!!

I got this fancy little dispencer to carry pooper scooper bags and the only time I used a bag was in Pet Smart on Monday. But today we got up for early outings, came in, and I slept in a bit. When I got up to take Averey back out she poopied for the first time (6 days) then peed. We came in and while I was pouring tea and getting my breakfast ready. She went on her piddle pad finally and piddled on it.

I did just was that and the carrier blankie my dad gave me, but she was like looking for them.

I did the poopy dance. I did not make too much of it, but I did say good girl both times after.

Last night I think i was over tired and I should have turned in earlier, cuz the later it got, the harder it was with Averey. Tonight will be an early night just for Av.

Trying something new

Averey still seems to bark and whine a lot when being crated. I pulled out my whopping huge boom box and found a radio station and placed it near her crate with station on at a low volume, so she can hear it. I am not sure of the station, it is so dusty, but there seemed to be talk.

I went to my doctors appointment this morning and came back to have breakfast and she is just overly excited to see me. I am hoping that is all a part of getting crate trained. I really want to focus on that before really focusing hard on piddle training. The rain the other night ruined it. We go through the motions of going out though.

I am also starting to work on the behaviors when I eat. I am trying to teach her to sit and be patient while I eat. I think I need to start eating at the table to really make this work with her. So, over the next few days I need to clear it and make a space for Emma and her food and my plate for when I eat.

Overall Averey is doing wonderful and it is such a joy to bring her into my home. Emma is even beginning to warm up to her. I think Emma is beginning to understand crate training. Emma looks at me with a sad look when I do crate her, but it may be the whines from Averey upsetting her. Emma also joined us to sleep last night. Emma is doing super. I am so relieved.

Emma is really trying to come around. Averey is sitting in my lap and Emma just came in to rub my legs with Averey in my lap. I think Emma will be fine it is just a matter of patience right now.

Wednesday afternoon

It is rough coming home and getting this crate training stuff done. Av's is a tough little cookie, but whines in a very high pitch shreak right in the ear. So, we are really trying to get through and get used to this new routine. It is rough, but it is going.

I think it could be a lot worse.

Wednesday

I slept well last night. I was ancy once I woke from my evening nap, but played and got to sleep. My mommy was even able to bake brownies and she cut them up this morning to go to dance this evening.

I am so happy the wind and rain stopped. I was able to go out to piddle, but I need to start working on potty training asap with Mommy.

I went into the crate well this morning, but was still a bit upset. Mommy hopes this gets easier.

Tuesday Night!!!

I was not howling as much when Mommy got home this evening. Mommy is shifting her habits to meet my needs and respect my neighbors. For example, she is ready for bed instead of waiting until 11 pm, since I bark and howl when she gets in the bathroom.

I am quietly resting now for a while while Mommy wraps things up online and posts here. Then she will wake me to play and to go outside before heading to bed.

Oh, she even made brownies and got things done!

Howling

Got to the Condo door and all was quiet. I entered, then the howls started. I think Averey was excited, but that excited she kept howling in excitement for about 10 minutes. I took her out twice, but this rainy weather is not helping in the piddle training front. I set Averey down and she runs right up the steps to go inside.

Since i had a barking confused puppy last night while taking a bath. I am going to try to get ready for bed at a more reasonable time. So, I don't feel guilty for a barking dog at 11 pm.

Tuesday....

Today was a great morning. I slept until 7 a.m. Mommy had to actually had to wake me up to go out. I did piddle in the rain. But came in to like double poopy, but one ended up in kitchen on the ceramic tile floor. Which is super easy to clean up.

Also, I had a great day yesterday even after my boosters. I cried while Mommy cleaned up in the bathroom, so she does have to change her bathtime, cuz I cry and bark. I then played a bit and then when we went to bed I snuggled by Mommy's feet and Emma actually crawled on top of then beside Mommy and was still in bed until the alarm went off.

Mommy's first day to work

I survived my Mommy's first day at work. I was crying and whining when she got home. But that is normal. Emma was even out and about more since Mommy is home. Emma is growling a bit less, but giving me a chance.

This is also my new dress. The dress has "Born to Bark" written on it. And I am a beauty queen in my new outfit. Xsmall is still big on me, but I am being patient.

I went out for a nice walk and played hard when Mommy got home. I am now taking a nap sitting next to Mommy.

First Vet Visit

Today I went to my first vet visit. I am a little over 3 lbs. I was a good girl. I have to go back in 3 weeks for my next set of shots. As a baby and as a small pup, I need to go more and get smaller doses.

At 6 months I will go and get spayed.

I slept a lot yesterday and I slept until about 5 in the morning, went potty, then came in and snuggled up again to get warm and go back to sleep. I had a few accidents around the house but we will be working on house training and keeping our fingers and toes crossed.

My mommy is going to work this afternoon, so I will get crate trained the first time. Mommy is a bit nervous, but she has to let go and do that. She needs to fix up the new crate.

We did visit petsmart after going to the vet. I did poopy on the floor, but mommy cleaned it up. But she also got me new toe nail clippers, so tonight we will start the first clippings so I get used to it. I also got a purdy outfit. We will debut it this evening, so check back later to check it out.

Where's the Sassiness?

When I was with Mommy, Sarah, & Ruby I was a sassy girl. I even snapped at Daddy yesterday and made his lip bleed. But since I came to my new home there has been no sass. I am learning to walk nicer on my leash. I met some neighbors, then I met a german shepard named Ricky. I even met a group of boys who were playing football and they wanted to be my friends, but I was nervous.

Mommy shared some of her bowl of strawberry cheerios with me tonight and they were really yummy. I sneaked a few sips of her water then too from the chinese glass from Momma's house. Yum!

Napping the afternoon away!

I had a great afternoon of napping by my mommy!!! I like snuggling on the couch while mommy is on the computer!

Meeting Emma

I am slowly getting to know Emma. I hope we are able to snuggle instead of growl and bark soon. Cat growls are scary.

Trip Home

The trip home was a bit trying...

We whined and howeled for about 45 minutes. Then pooped in crate. Then puked all over my Mommy.

We stopped to clean up the mess at the Sheets in Leesport, then went for a walk and I left a peep there.

Got back on the road and I slept the rest of the way.

I am enjoying my new home and am trying to meet Emma, my cat sister.
