I was able to take her withe me for the first night, but because I had a few more weeks of graduate school left Sarah had to go and stay with my Mom, who in the long run fell in love with her first and convinced me to get a dog.
Sarah ended up with a case of kennel cough either from being with her litter or from her new surroundings. It scared my mom, and it scared me. It was horrible, but my mom cuddled and nursed her back to health and my mom loves her as much if not more than me. So, after I graduated and landed that first job out of graduate school I found an apartment and moved to West Chester. So, again for a few weeks Sarah stayed with my mom until I was settled. Then, the time came I packed her up and took her to my new apartment, which allowed pets at Windsor at Windermere Place. A cute third floor apartment with Cathedral ceilings. The ride was awful. Sarah was anxious. I was getting used to living in a new place, a new town, the farthest away from my family in my whole life. Sarah did great, but she was not herself. We got through the week and we packed up and went home to Mom's on Friday, another icky ride, and when we got there Sarah lit up when she saw my mom. She clinged and dug her paws into her and would not let go. Sarah fell in love with my Mom and took ownership of my mom, who she claimed as her human. So, she was my dog, who took ownership of another human. So, Sunday rolled around and my mom thought about it and begged me that Sarah was not happy with me, just to leave her with her for a few weeks, well a few weeks is now 11 years later and Sarah definitely claims ownership of her momma.
Here she is all happy wagging her tail on my parents back porch. She really loves it at my Parents.
A few years go by, I moved a few times and one night this little critter scuttered across the carpet in my new condo. It freaked me out. I called my dad screaming and standing on my chair... Dad there is a mouse in my house, so yes it came out funny, but seriously it did. So, because of that event another baby came to live with me. I within about two months adopted my natural pest controller and her name is Emma. Emma fell in love and trusts Sarah. I don't know if it is because of the smell of me or what. When I visit my parents Sarah goes back to being my dog and owning me. She sleeps with me and follows me, but come Sunday evening, she is back to clinging to my mom. So, you can see how much two of my babies trust each other enough for Emma to snuggle and nappy laying on top of Sarah. Sarah never pics on Emma and they just unconditionally love each other. It is more of an ignore and snuggle, but they trust and live so nicely together.
So, a few years go by and we faced the death of our boys. Duke was the oldest, a mixed lab mutt. A real handsome lovable fella, who would guard me with his life. He would sit with me through scary movies and let me hug him tight to feel safe. Then, a few months later Max was not doing well either. Those two boys were bestest friends and Max was broken after he lost Duke. They both gradually went down hill together. So, about one night went by and my mom called. I need a new baby. We need to find another chi baby. How do we find a new chihuahua, can you use that Internet thing and help me? So, I subscribed for a month, it cost 5 dollars and within two days we found a Chihuahua puppy. I told my mom I would go as far as 8 hours, but then we found one in Lancaster county. I set up an appointment and drove out to Cornwall and met my mom's new girl. I gave the owner $100 down on this little lady and set up an appointment to meet a week later with my mom and the rest of the money to pick up Maggie. So, on a Good Friday I took Mom and Sarah, so Sarah could meet her new Sister.
Maggie was a cute brown little chihuahua. And my mom decided before she even had her, that she wanted the experience of having a litter, so Maggie gave my mom a litter. Here is Sarah and Maggie with little baby Ruby on my bed on a visit to my house in West Chester.
Sarah fell in love with Ruby as well as Maggie and here is Sarah and baby Ruby on my bed during this first visit to my house.
A few years later, here is a grown up Ruby with her best Walking Buddy Sarah. So, this is the before picture.
